Peptide quality review often starts with sequence, molecular weight, purity percentage, batch number, and COA documentation. Those are important, but they do not capture every chemical change that can happen to a peptide over time.

One of the most important examples is deamidation: a chemical modification that commonly involves asparagine or glutamine side chains. With asparagine, the result can include aspartate and isoaspartate-related species. The mass change is small, but the structural consequence can be meaningful because an isoaspartate linkage changes the way the peptide backbone is connected.
