What Is BPC-157?
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide – a chain of 15 amino acids – originally identified as a partial sequence in human gastric juice. It was first described by Sikiric and colleagues at the University of Zagreb in 1993.
In the years since, BPC-157 has become one of the most widely studied peptides in tissue-repair research, appearing in well over 100 published animal studies covering tendon healing, muscle repair, gut protection, and vascular growth.
It has also moved into the veterinary and pet-owner space, where it’s increasingly discussed – and used off-label – for dogs recovering from soft-tissue injuries or dealing with chronic gut issues.
That popularity is worth pausing on, because the evidence base for dogs specifically is much narrower than the evidence base for BPC-157 in general. This piece lays out exactly what has – and hasn’t – been studied in canine subjects.
The Canine Evidence Gap
