A peptide COA can look convincing at first glance. It may show a purity percentage, a chromatogram, a molecular weight, and a mass spectrum. Those details matter, but they do not all answer the same question.

Purity asks how much of the detected material appears to be the main component under a specific method. Intact mass asks whether the observed molecular mass matches the expected peptide. Sequence confirmation asks a more specific structural question: does the evidence support the intended amino acid order?

MS/MS fragmentation helps close that gap by giving the testing record more molecular detail. Instead of relying only on one intact mass peak, the method gives researchers a pattern of sequence-related evidence.
